Ski jumping, 跳臺滑雪
Ski jumping has been a key fixture of the Winter Olympics ever since it made its debut at the inaugural Winter Games at Chamonix 1924. The competition has given us some iconic Olympic moments over the years - from Eddie the Eagle soaring through the air at Calgary 1988 to Robert Johansson and his 'flying moustache', the sport of ski jumping always seems to deliver something special at the Games.
自1924年在夏蒙尼首屆冬奧會上首次亮相后，跳臺滑雪一直是冬奧會的一個重要比賽項目。從1988年卡爾加里冬奧會的“飛鷹艾迪”到羅伯特?約翰森和他“飛翔的胡子”，跳臺滑雪運動似乎總能為冬奧會帶來別樣的精彩。
The origins of ski jumping can be traced to Norway, where, in 1808, Ole Rye jumped a modest 9.5m off a small hill on a pair of skis.

But it wasn't until after World War I that people started to refine and invent new techniques in the sport. For example, Thulin Thams and Sigmund Ruud are credited with developing the Kongsberger Technique, which involved jumping with the upper body bent at the hips, a wide forward lean, and with arms extended at the front with the skis parallel to each other. Austrian Sepp Bradl used this technique with great success in 1936, becoming the first person to break the 100m mark with a 101m leap.

Ski jumping has been a part of the Winter Olympic programme since the first Games in Chamonix in 1924, when the men's large hill was the sole event. A normal hill competition was added for the 1964 Innsbruck Games, with the men's team large hill joining the programme in 1988. The women's competition was only added for the 2014 Sochi Games , while the mixed team event is new for 2022.

As a highlight of Zhangjiakou's preparations for the Games, the completion of the new National Ski Jumping Center, built halfway up the mountains in the Guyangshu area, has impressed visitors from home and abroad with its spectacular architectural design and post-Games plans for tourism operation.

Featuring two slopes and located around 1,750 meters above sea level, the center's S-type curve resembles the shape of a jade Ruyi scepter, a traditional Chinese ceremonial object－earning it the nickname "Snow Ruyi".
國家跳臺滑雪中心設有兩條賽道，賽道起點的海拔高度約1750米。場館 S型的曲線宛若中國傳統吉祥飾物“如意”，因此又被稱為“雪如意”。
About 40 meters above the ramps, a circular lounge has been built on the mountain peak, which will provide a unique top-down viewing experience for spectators during the Games. After 2022, the lounge will open to the public for sightseeing, leisure and conference functions.
冬奧會期間，位于賽道上方約40米處圓形的頂峰俱樂部將為觀眾提供獨特的高空俯瞰體驗。2022年冬奧會后，頂峰俱樂部將向公眾開放，滿足公眾觀光、休閑和會議的需求。
